Part 3

Chaturvarga: Four Aspects Of Life Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha:

This is not understood even by many Indians. It is beautiful universal concept again by brilliant Indian minds.

Saying Artha is money will not be correct, asset will be a better translation. Let me give two examples so one can understand and bring the concept to practical use. How will these Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha be explained in connection with suppose, body?

Body has some properties so to get a healthy body you need to eat nutritious food and also give rest to the system by fasting, need to give it exercise and also sleep and rest. So based on science what is your duty towards your body is your dharma. If you have a healthy body, it is an asset, Artha for you. If you want, wish, desire, crave to do something with your body like eating a plate of sweets or climbing up a scenic hill you can do it as long as you have a healthy body, Artha and you have done Dharma that has worked to get a healthy body. If you have a bigger Kama like winning an Olympic gold medal you need a higher dose of Dharma. This way the three are related. Now once you balance the three, you can go beyond the body to your mind that will be Moksha for body. Moksha is not death.

Similarly, you balance Dharma Artha and Kama for your mind and you go beyond your mind to Soul.

Secondly if we take money. What you need to do to protect and increase money is dharma having good amount of money is Artha. To spend money for what you like, is Kama. Understanding that life is more than just money and money should serve you, you should not serve money ultimately, you go beyond money.

Why so many people are sick in India? more interestingly why doctors give medicines but do not guide their patients on lifestyle changes? Why people purchase a house after retirement when their son is on a job elsewhere? Why so many people look unhappy?
